ESSENTIAL RAFTING INFO

Why Dandeli?

Dandeli is one of the few places in India where rafting is possible almost year-round. This is thanks to the Supa Dam; water releases from the dam regulate the river flow, creating consistent rapids even when other rivers across the country have dried up. The river features Grade II and Grade III rapids.
Grade II: Clear passages with wide channels; great for beginners.
Grade III: Higher, irregular waves and narrower passages that require active paddling and a good sense of adventure.

How long is the rafting stretch?

The main stretch on the Kali River is approximately 9km, featuring Grade 2 and Grade 3 rapids. It usually takes 2 to 3 hours depending on the water flow. For those seeking a shorter thrill, “Mid-rafting” (5km) & “Short-rafting” (1km) is also available.

When is the best time to go?

Rafting in Dandeli is dependent on water release from the Supa Dam. While available most of the year, the peak season is from October to May. We recommend morning slots (9:00 AM) to beat the heat and ensure the best water volume.

What is the pricing?

Long-Rafting (9-12 km): Typically ranges around Rs 1,200 per person.
Mid-Rafting (4-6 km): Typically ranges around Rs 1,000 per person.
Short-Rafting (~ 1 km): Typically around Rs 400 per person.
Includes: Life jackets, helmets, paddles, and a certified river guide.

Avadale facilitates rafting bookings with NO convenience fee.

What all do I need to carry ?

1. Clothing: Wear quick-dry synthetics (polyester/nylon). Avoid denim at all costs—it becomes heavy and restrictive when wet.
2. Footwear: Sandals with back-straps or water shoes. Flip-flops will likely end up at the bottom of the river.
3. Protection: Waterproof sunscreen and a change of clothes (including a towel) waiting for you at the finish line.
4. Safety: The operators provide life jackets and helmets. Ensure they are snug but comfortable before you board.

What about safety & eligibility ?

1. Age & Weight: Usually, participants must be 14+ years old and weigh over 35 kg for the long run.
2. Swimming: You do not need to know how to swim. The high-buoyancy life jackets will keep you afloat even if you take a “voluntary” dip.
3. Instructions: Your guide is the captain. Listen to commands like “All forward!” or “Back paddle!”—teamwork is what keeps the raft upright.
4. Health: Avoid rafting if you have severe back issues, heart conditions, or are in advanced stages of pregnancy.
